BCER 1225 Rehabilitation

2009 - Up in the air - work underneath and above.

Built in 1912, delivered to BCER 1913, removed from service 1958. Sent South and then returned to Canada in 2005. This is a collection of images of rehabilitation work on 1225 in 2009.

Please see the other years for the rest of the story.

March 10, 2009. In the workshop the seats are being prepared. This is the back of one of the smoking section seats with the final choice of finish decided.

March 19, 2009. The "B" end door is fitted for the new doorway. Looks like a good fit.

April 9, 2009. Expanding the framing at the "B" end. Windows and controls will go here.

April 15, 2009. The "B" end gets new steps. Took some time to get these in?

May 19, 2009. Working in a full car barn is different. BCER 1304 arrived on April 25, 2009 and slipped nicely into the east bay of the car barn. The height of 1225 is to allow work underneath - cleaning and electrical while the trucks are out at the shop.

May 19, 2009. Work continues inside as well. Here the ceiling panels are installed in the non-smoking section in time for the next Open house. The two seats are to show the differences between the Family or non-smoking section (rattan) and the Men's club or smoking section (wooden) seats. Both are double ender style - they can be flipped over to face the other direction.

May 19, 2009. The ad panels are also installed. These are copies donated from SIRS of the original ones from the 1950's.

May 20, 2009. reconstruction of the "B" end continues with framing and panels installed.

May 20, 2009. detail of the "A" end vestibule door. Rehabilitation work includes saving the original lettering were ever possible.

May 21, 2009. Lifting the "A" end coupler to return it where it belongs.

May 21, 2009. Moving the coupler back into position. It is not light.

May 21, 2009. Back in the right place. It looks ready to work.

July 8, 2009. Inside the foot pads are being placed on the painted floor boards.

July 8, 2009. With most of the "B" end work nearing completion, the step kick plates are installed.

July 8, 2009. With careful work and precision tools the roof vents are placed and cut out.

July 9, 2009. The gang lower the car - a bit - to make room for work on the roof. New canvas is needed. Also makes the repainting of the sides a bit easier.
